Who doesn’t love a family business success story? Given we at EAST know what it’s like to work in one, we respect the tenacity of people who give it a go and clearly succeed – just like the Ratanakosol family from Morks.
“Before opening Morks, they had owned and operated Sukothai Restaurant in Yarralumla for 19 years. We grew up working in restaurants, just like our dad did.”
In 2013, brothers Benn and Mork opened their restaurant MORKS in the beautiful Kingston Foreshore, and it is thriving! In fact you’re lucky to get a booking Friday or Saturday nights – a good sign indeed! My partner and I were lucky enough to get a seat a couple of weeks ago and were in Thai food heaven. To start we had the “getting to be famous” Angel prawns. These juicy bites arrive in a clay dish with individual tajine lids for each prawn and when you lift the lid you get hit with the best kaffir lime and coconut aroma – a must!
For mains we went straight for the duck with fresh lychees and crispy rice cakes – mouthwatering, and the barramundi green curry with fresh grated pineapple, so so good. The sad thing is we went as a couple and not as a group, so that is all we could eat and there was so many more dishes we could have tried. Clearly we need to return for the food and for the service – the young man who served us was so friendly, proficient and professional I actually handed him my business card! A first for me, but when you run a family business, or any business for that matter, you know that good staff is everything. Four thumbs up!
